Electrical storm ahead...

Yeh Yeh....no updates...are you surprised? HA! I've been much too busy lately. You know, being lazy is very time consuming - it's a full time job in itself. But a bit of snooping plus a bit of wild intuition tells me that something very cool might just happen later this year (or ten years later in the case of Australia...pffft!).
No surprises, the colours for Autumn Winter 08/09 are progressive from the SS08 collections...which is a great thing if you like your charcoals and greys spiked with a dash of fluoro (ala hot pink and purple, and friends) left over from SS. And it's awesome to see a generous helping of sculptural influences in the shoes (for the gals)...it's about time something really interesting happened. (Check out the AW09 Dior, Prada, MiuMiu, and ESPECIALLY Balenciaga's geometric sculpt pumps...all praise the mighty Ghesquire!) Though the exotics are now just being thrown around all over the place - I sometimes question if the exotics are merely a lazy excuse for houses to charge a fortune and a half, or whether it is a genuine design decision. (Watch your hides, lizards and snakes...the designers are going hunting) But at the end of the day (yesterday to be precise) the thing that piqued my interest was a 2 by 2 photo in an editorial in VOGUE Paris Collections (I only read it because i was waiting for a friend who was late...honestly...that really is what happened). What I saw was a hot pair of DSquared2 pumps with what looked like 3" heels. NOT just any heels. LIGHTENING BOLT HEELS! I know what you're thinking. And the answer is 'NO, I'm not into heels'...at least not for myself. What got the currents flowing was the possibility that lightening bolts just may be the new skull!

II sidetrack II

Don't get me wrong. I love me some skulls. A good skull, these days, is hard to find. ...and I praise the god (sorry Tom Ford...this god just happens to be someone else) - Alexander McQueen. Sure he's not the first, nor the only, and possibly not the best designer to have applied skull motifs to garments/accessories...but he sure did apply those dead boney craniums well. You can have your Lucien Pellat Finet, or Thomas Wylde, or Roen, or whoever....but I'll always love the McQueen skulls.

Yes. Lightening bolts. (Thanks Dean & Dan!) They're hot. And really...that's all there is to it. Isn't that what fashion is really about? The degree of hotness? Don't we just wear things to look hot? ...well...no. But sometimes we're allowed to indulge in a little frivolous no-brainer fashion. There doesn't ALWAYS have to be an intellectual agenda to design.
...and quite simply...that's the end of this entry. *yawn*
